Is July the 4th really just another Presidents Day?

Hey you! Yes you! United states Citizen.

Please do something me, for you, for US. Every country on this earth has a 4th of July. Please refer to our July 4th as Independence Day rather than just another date on a calendar.

Here is where I sadly lose a few of you. This is NOT really a celebration of our independence from Britain.
Granted, anything you do in your life, any day we have set aside, is really for you to do and think as you please.

I would like to share, with you, some dates that I learned about today.

  •  July 2, 1776 was the actual day that the Continental Congress agreed to declare independence.
  •  The Revolution started in April '75.
  •  Jefferson wrote the first draft of the Declaration in June '76.
  •  It was signed on August 2, 1776.
  •  Great Britain didn't even get a copy until November '76.
  •  The final wording of the Declaration of Independence was agreed on by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776. So, that was the date that was handed out on all the copies.
Because Govt. is so good at what they do, Congress took nearly a century before declaring in 1870 July 4 to be a national holiday!

OK here is the fun part where the nay sayin' evil doers come in. John Adams and Thomas Jefferson both died on July 4, 1826, so those of you that seem to hate our founding fathers have reason to celebrate too!!!

Oh come on everybody loves dead presidents!
